Sample Ceremony 1

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen:
"If there is such a thing as a good marriage, it is because it resembles friendship rather than love." ~ Michel de Montaigne

We gather here today on the surface of Mother Ocean to celebrate the end of a beautiful day and the start of a beautiful lifetime.  Through devoted respect to one another, they will commit themselves to live together for all their days to come: as partners and confidants.  The strength of your individual spirit is what will feed your union.

This poem was taken from "on marriage"

"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness.
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each others cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though the quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each others keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each others shadow."

Vows:

Sample Ceremony 2

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentleman:

We  are about to experience a miracle.  This miracle is the joining of two lives in peace which becomes the inspiration that forms a family.

Who gives this woman to this man in marriage?

All of your moments together have led up to this exchange of vows and have prepared you as you promise to be each others lifetime partner.  This is a most special gift which you are about to share, which has been carefully nurtured and polished to give to one another. This gift cannot be bought in a store or found under a tree.  This is the gift of love that can only be shared in marriage.  may its radiance never diminish, even as the sea around us.

We are joyfully gathered here today to witness and to celebrate the joining of two lives in marriage.  Let us rejoice with each other in the making of this important covenant. The essence of this covenant is the taking of each other in entirety, as and everlasting lover, friend, and companion.  It is, therefore, a decision which has not been entered into lightly but rather  undertaken with great consideration and respect for one another.

We have some together in the hope that the love which has brought you both to this union may go beyond itself into the lives of others.  Thus, we ask that your promises and hopes be realized.  We ask that you both be granted the patience to listen, the capacity to understand, the compassion to give comfort and the joy to laugh and just be together.  Most importantly let your marriage make a home where neither person is a stranger, and, remember, it is just as important to be the right partner as it is to choose the right partner.

Let your marriage offer illumination and growth.  Bask in the joy of shared discoveries.  Let your union be strong enough to endure the darkness of all things.  May silence and despair never separate you; may you always return to each other.

With these beautiful words in mind:

(Groom) do you take (Bride) to be your wife?  Do you promise to love her, honor her, cherish and protect her, and forsaking all others, be true and loyal to her for now and forevermore?

(Bride) do you take (Groom) to be your wife?  Do you promise to love her, honor her, cherish and protect her, and forsaking all others, be true and loyal to her for now and forevermore?

(Bride) and (Groom), the vows you are about to exchange will join your lives.  You both bring individual strengths and weaknesses to this marriage, and as you stand together today, may you complement each other and fulfill each others needs as your love and commitment continue to deepen throughout your married life.

(Bride), please pass you flowers to ___.  I want you to face each other and hold hands.

(Groom), please repeat after me.

I (Groom), take thee (Bride), to be my wife.  To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, and I promise my love to you forever more.

(Bride), please repeat after me.

I (Bride), take thee (Groom), to be my husband.  To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, and I promise my love to you forever more.

Having this kind of love in your hearts, you have chosen to share rings as a sign and seal of the vows you are making today.  Let these rings which you are about to exchange, serve to remind us that a circle is a symbol of the sun, the earth, and the universe, of wholeness, peace, and unity.  Your rings are circles which have no beginning and no ending.  They are tokens of this growing relationship you have come here today to celebrate and confirm, emblems of eternity which can never be tarnished, and which are without end, to show how imperishable is the faith that you now have mutually pledged before God.

(Groom), as a symbol of your faithfulness, place the ring on (Bride)'s finger and repeat after me.

With this ring, I thee wed.  I accept you (Bride), as my partner, as my friend, and as my wife, through all of the experiences life holds for us, in abiding faith and love.

With this ring I thee wed, I accept you (Groom), as my partner, as my friend, and as my husband, through all of the experiences life holds for us, in abiding faith and love.

(Special Ceremony(s) May be added here.)

Allow me to Share this wedding blessing with you....Be together in harmony and let the winds of the heavens dance between you.  Empower each other and allow your relationship to evolve to its highest purpose.  Nourish each others possibilities and lift up each others spirits.   care for one another, share your love openly and let it be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.  Sing and dance together and be joyful.  Share you lives with each other and write you love with our Creator.  May you union last though all of your moments together, so that in the triumphs and the trials that lie ahead, you will feel just as you do now - happy to be in love and married to one another.  Go then, in peace, and live more and more in the present, which is beautiful and stretches away beyond the limits of the past and towards the horizons of the future.

And now - in conclusion

Sample Ceremony 3

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.

Today we honor the love you (Bride) and you (Groom) discovered in each other, and support your decision to promise yourselves to one another for the rest of your lives.  It is said that one does not fall in love, but grows in love.  And now we celebrate this love, which draws you forward in a lasting commitment, to one another, creating a new family and an inseparable bond.

As Paul said in his letter to the Corinthians...
Love is patient and never seeks it's own advantage,
And it does not take offense or store up grievances.
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth.
It is always ready to make allowance, to trust, to hope,
And to endure whatever comes.
Love never comes to and end.
Faith, hope, and love endure, these three alone,
But the greatest of theses - is love!

"As we stand by the ocean, may your love always be a constant and unchanging as these never-ending waves that break beneath our feet, flowing endlessly from the depths of the sea.  Your love came softly upon each others hearts, just as the foam breaks softly upon this beach, and just as there will never be a morning without the ocean's flow, may there never be a morning without your love for each other.  Pledge yourselves to each other this day and promise to be as faithful, unchanging and dependable as the tide.  As these waters nourish the earth and sustain life, may your constant love nourish and sustain you until the end of time"

With these beautiful words in mind:

(Groom) do you take (Bride) to be your wife?  Do you promise to love her, honor her, cherish and protect her, and forsaking all others, be true and loyal to her for now and forevermore?
